Protects individuals from significant risks to human health and the environment through the following core services:
-Providing information on what individuals can do in their homes, workplaces, and communities to prevent pollution
-Conducting research on environmental issues
-Developing and enforcing environmental regulations
-Providing information on and working to address pollution of air and water by heavy metals and other hazardous materials
-Allocating grants to state environmental programs, nonprofits, educational institutions, etc., addressing environmental issues
