DHS FRAUD INVESTIGATIONS HOTLINE
Conducts investigations related to allegations of fraud within programs administered by DHS. Investigations focus on client eligibility issues as well as fraud allegations made against DHS providers and contractors.
Client fraud includes:
- Medicaid/Oregon Health Plan programs and benefits
- SNAP/food stamps
- Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
- Oregon Trail card, which is used for Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT)
- Child care benefits

Provider fraud includes:
- Medicaid/ Oregon Health Plan providers
- Child care providers
- DHS providers

Investigators coordinate with staff at the DHS Field Offices, county prosecutors, and local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies when necessary. The Coordinator sends a report to the Investigations Unit for review, and substantiated criminal investigations results are thoroughly reviewed for prosecution referral. No information is reported back to the complaining party to preserve the confidentiality and privacy of client information.

Investigates welfare fraud in Washington state which includes TANF, SNAP, Electronic Benefits Transfer cards, and Child Care assistance. Investigations focus on welfare eligibility issues, and vendor fraud. Investigators coordinate with staff at community services offices statewide, county prosecutors, and with local, state, federal, and international law enforcement agencies when necessary. Welfare Fraud is fraud against the programs of the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), including unlawful practices in obtaining cash assistance, medical assistance, and/or food assistance. It is the intentional misstatement or failure to reveal information affecting eligibility resulting in an overpayment.
