Healthy Families is a voluntary home-visiting program that offers services to families of newborns. The program seeks to ensure healthy, thriving children and caring, nurturing families through education and guidance.

Head Start is a national program that promotes school readiness by enhancing the social, emotional, and cognitive development of children ages 3-5 through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social, and other services to enrolled children and families, with a special focus on helping preschoolers develop the early reading and math skills they need to be successful in school. Parental involvement is emphasized.

Oregon Head Start Pre-Kindergarten (OPK) was established in 1987 as the state counterpart to the federal Head Start program. The state's Department of Education and the regional Head Start office govern the program collaboratively. OPK adheres to all federal Head Start Performance Standards.

NCESD does not operate its own Head Start/OPK program, but provides referrals to local providers and preschools.

Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP) is Washington State's Head Start. All preschool and ECEAP students receive a whole-child, family focused preschool program. Activities are designed to stimulate learning and development with the use of crafts, puzzles, toys, music and field trips. Meals and snacks are provided and meet the nutritional requirements of the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program.

Provides access to a routine, structured, early childhood classroom environment. Healthy snacks, lunch, and play activities are available to encourage social communication and social/emotional development. Run by two lead teachers/family resource coordinators and an associate teacher with the support of community volunteers. Volunteers are needed to help young children participate in developmentally appropriate play session activities while assisting the lead teachers throughout the preschool day. Volunteers typically join the team two days per week from 9am-1:30pm and commit to an entire term (3 months) at a time.

Program offers early childhood education for children 2 ½ to 5 years of age. Partially funded through the Early Childhood Education Assistance Program (ECEAP), and approximately 60% of enrolled children are referred by ECEAP. Also welcome children from the broader community, and we accept DCYF subsidies, as well as offer need-based discounts to help keep early childhood education affordable for all families. We believe in children’s innate curiosity and desire to learn. We use an emergent curriculum that encourages children to ask questions and think critically. We also place a strong focus on social and emotional growth, including building empathy, perspective-taking, and conflict resolution skills.
