Habitat for Humanity provides an opportunity for families to build and buy their own homes. The houses are sold at an affordable price to homeowners.

Eligibility: Families currently living in substandard housing who meet all of the following requirements:
1) Meet income guidelines
2) Can commit to 500 hours of sweat equity in construction
3) Are United States citizens or permanent residents
4) Have not have owned a home in the past 3 years
5) Have the ability to pay a mortgage payment (steady income and decent credit history)

INTAKE PROCEDURE: Call for information
FEES: Households pay an affordable mortgage. Mortgage lengths vary depending on income; Habitat adjusts the length of the mortgage so that the monthly mortgage payment (which includes taxes, insurance, and condo fees, if applicable) is no more than 30% of the homeowner's gross monthly income at the time of sale.
