HOMEOWNERSHIP PROGRAM
Provides an opportunity for families to build and buy their own homes. The houses are sold to homeowner families, who provide sweat equity labor to help build the houses.

Eligibility: Households currently living in substandard housing that meet all of the following requirements:
-Meet income guidelines
-Can commit to 500 hours of sweat equity in construction
-Are United States citizens or permanent residents
-Have the ability to make a mortgage payment (steady income and decent credit history)

INTAKE PROCEDURE: Call for information. Application available online.
FEES: Households are responsible for a closing fee of up to $3000. 0% down payment for closing costs and an affordable mortgage. Mortgage lengths vary depending on income; Habitat adjusts the length of the mortgage so that the monthly mortgage payment (which includes taxes, insurance, and condo fees, if applicable) is no more than 30% of the homeowner’s gross monthly income at the time of sale.
