HOME OWNERSHIP PROGRAM
Habitat for Humanity provides an opportunity for families to build and buy their own homes. The houses are sold at no profit to homeowner families, who provide sweat equity labor to help build the houses.

Eligibility: Family currently living in substandard housing who:
1) meet income guidelines
2) can commit to 500 hours of sweat equity in construction
3) is a United States citizen or permanent legal resident
4) Have not owned a home in the past 3 years
5) has ability to pay a mortgage payment (steady income and decent credit history)

INTAKE PROCEDURE: Call for information
FEES: Households are responsible for a closing fee of up to $4000. 0% down payment for closing costs and a 0%-interest mortgage (0% APR). Mortgage lengths vary depending on income; Habitat adjusts the length of the mortgage so that the monthly mortgage payment (which includes taxes, insurance, and condo fees, if applicable) is no more than 30% of the homeowner’s gross monthly income at the time of sale.
