DESCHUTES COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE
CENTRAL OREGON PARTNERSHIPS FOR YOUTH (COPY)
Works to reduce trauma among children facing issues related to parental incarceration through a one-on-one volunteer mentorship program. Mentors spend a few hours per week with a minimum of one year with a child. Time often is spent attending community events or sport/recreation activities such as riding bikes, playing at the park, art projects, going to the movies or the library, listening to music, fishing, swimming, bowling, and hiking. Some volunteers provide academic assistance or help develop reading skills and may provide a link to additional community support and work with staff who are aware of scholarship opportunities, youth enrichment programs, and other resources that assist children and families in succeeding.
