HOMEOWNERSHIP PROGRAM
Provides an opportunity for families to build and buy their own homes. The houses are sold to loan-qualified families with a below market rate loan. Families provide sweat equity labor to help build the houses.

Eligibility: Households currently living in substandard housing that meet all of the following requirements:
-Live or work in Bend or Redmond for at least 1 year
-Meet income guidelines listed on website
-Can commit to 250 hours of sweat equity
-Primary applicant is a United State citizen or permanent resident
-Have not owned a home in the past 3 years
-Have the ability to make a mortgage payment (steady income)
-Have a minimum credit score of 620

INTAKE PROCEDURE: Visit website. From application to owning a home, the process takes approximately 12-18 months, depending on the mortgage-readiness of each applicant.
FEES: Households are responsible for a closing fee of up to $2000. 0% down payment for closing costs and a below-market-interest mortgage (low APR). Mortgage lengths vary depending on income; Habitat adjusts the monthly mortgage payment to include taxes, insurance, and HOA fees, if applicable, so that payments are no more than 33% of the homeowner’s gross monthly income at the time of sale.
