Students take GED preparation classes and GED test at Portland Community College. Students are paired with a College Success Coach to help adjust to college life.

PORTLAND YOUTH BUILDERS
YOUTHBUILD PROGRAM
Portland Youth Builders (PYB) is an alternative high school and job training program for young people who are ready to earn a GED or diploma and launch a career. At PYB, youth receive education, skills, structure, and support to overcome barriers and find a new path to success. Also offers GED test instruction.

Program includes academic instruction in small classes leading to a GED or high school diploma; hands-on job training in technology or construction; industry-recognized certifications, preparation for college, apprenticeship, and career-path employment; individualized counseling, career coaching, and wrap-around support; free bus passes; opportunities to earn an AmeriCorps education award of approximately $1500 and small financial bonuses for achievement; and multi-year support and placement assistance after graduation.

Students attend school full-time for roughly 12 months and split their time between the classroom and PYB jobsites. In PYB's Technology track, students learn coding and programming and build and upgrade computers as a community service. PYB's Construction track is a certified pre-apprenticeship program in which students build and renovate homes for low-income families. PYB helps students in both tracks obtain employment and post-secondary education or training to reach long-term goals.

Eligibility: Individuals who are refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers, service providers, or community members.
