HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER PROGRAM
The Housing Choice Voucher program, commonly known as Section 8, is the federal government's main program for assisting very low-income families, older adults, and people needing special features or accommodations to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private rental market. Voucher holders may choose their own housing in the private rental market, including single-family homes, townhouses, and apartments that meet minimum standards of health and safety. This may include the household's current rental unit. Also fields complaints about the program.

Projected wait times for Housing Choice Vouchers are 4-5 years. Wait time depends on the number of participants leaving the program and budgetary constraints.
