The Seattle Field Office of the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) fields complaints about community shelters in Washington. Shelters are bound by the same fair housing laws as other types of housing, and complaints might include issues of poor maintenance, dangers to health and safety, mismanagement, or fraud. Callers can also report perceived discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, familial status (i.e., presence of children in the household), sexual orientation, gender identity, and/or marital status.
