ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNER (ELL) AND MIGRANT SERVICES
Provides leadership, support, and consultation to school districts serving culturally and linguistically diverse student populations. Offers support services for successful development and implementation of the ELL and Migrant Education programs.


-Assist schools in meeting the educational needs of migrant students or English Learner students

-Provides interpretation at parent/teacher conferences and facilitates home/school communications

-Assist parents with school registration and obtaining accident injury insurance for eligible children

-Helps with dental and health emergencies

-Conduct bilingual parental contacts, family visits, and phone contacts

-Offers a Migrant summer school

Eligibility: Migrant children and youth are determined as eligible if the following criteria are met:
1. The child is younger than 22 (and has not graduated from high school or does not
hold a high school equivalency certificate); and
2. The child is a migrant agricultural worker OR has a parent, spouse, or guardian
who is a migrant agricultural worker or a migrant fisher; and
3. The child has moved within the preceding 36 months in order to obtain (or seek) or
to accompany (or join) a parent, spouse, or guardian to obtain, temporary or
seasonal employment in qualifying agricultural or fishing work, and
4. The child has moved from one school district to another.

INTAKE PROCEDURE: Call for information. A Migrant Home-School Consultant or Educational Assistant makes a home visit to verify the family's work situation. The Migrant Education staff member will complete a Certificate of Eligibility to establish the eligibility for migrant services.

SITE HOURS: Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:30pm
TRAVEL/LOCATION INFORMATION: TriMet Bus Line #48 and Orenco Station MAX stop. If needed, transportation is arranged with the child's resident school district.
