ADVOCACY & EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM
Provides advocates to help complete paperwork for restraining and stalking order petitions (new, renewals, modifications), court accompaniment for restraining and stalking order-related hearings and contested hearings, safety planning, and assistance with the Address Confidentiality Program application. All services are confidential.

Eligibility: Qualifications for obtaining a restraining order in Washington County:
Must be "related" to the perpetrator in one of the following ways:
-Current or former spouse
-Adult relative by blood, marriage, or adoption
-Someone you live with or used to live with, in a sexually intimate relationship
-Someone with whom you had a sexually intimate relationship within the past 2 years but never lived with

The person you are filing against must have done one of the following things in the past 6 months:
-Caused you bodily injury
-Attempted to cause you bodily injury
-Placed you in fear of imminent bodily injury
-Caused you to engage in involuntary sexual relations by force or threat of force

Qualifications for obtaining a stalking order in Washington County:
There must be 2 incidents within the past 2 years that meet all of the following requirements:
-Intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly engaging in repeated and unwanted contact with you or a member of your immediate family/household
-Contact that causes you to feel coerced or alarmed
-It is objectively reasonable for a person in your situation to have been alarmed or coerced by the contact
-The repeated and unwanted contact causes you reasonable apprehension regarding your personal safety or the safety of members of your immediate family/household

Restraining order court is held Monday-Friday 1pm
Stalking order court is held Monday/Wednesday/Friday 1pm

INTAKE PROCEDURE: Walk in or call for more information.
To file for court the same day, paperwork must be completed before 9:30am. Paperwork can take 1-2 hours to complete.
