ABC HOUSE
FAMILY SUPPORT, FORENSIC INTERVIEWS, AND MEDICAL PROGRAM
Provides services to families that have already reported child abuse:

Family support and referrals: Provides families with services to help them understand the assessment process. An advocate works with families to identify other needs (such as housing, food, or shelter from domestic violence) and help stabilize the current family situation. When appropriate, counseling or referrals for counseling will be made for children and family members. The advocate can also assist families in submitting a Crime Victims' Compensation application.

Medical program: Provides child-sensitive forensic medical exams by physicians trained in child abuse medicine. Exams include a complete assessment of the child's state of health, social and medical history, and patient counseling. Children may also be referred for follow-up testing and care with their primary care provider or other specialty providers.

Forensic interviews: Interviews are tailored to each child's developmental age and cognitive, social, and emotional abilities. Interviewers receive advanced forensic interview training and interviews are observed by law enforcement and DHS caseworkers involved in the case, who also receive forensic interview training. Interviews are recorded to limit the number of times children need to recount their stories and avoid the need to testify in court. ABC House interviews are peer-reviewed and adhere to the Oregon Child Interviewing Guidelines.
