Assistance Program (SNAP).

DHS
continues to allow seniors
to apply for SNAP.
This program is a valuable resource to help seniors save money that
would otherwise be spent on food costs.
Seniors can easily apply for benefits without having to go to the
regular DHS offices. People age 60 and over are considered
seniors. Single adults with total gross monthly income under $1670, and
couples under $2247, are eligible to apply for benefits.

Counseling Services

The
problem of mortgage default and foreclosure continues to be a major
concern in Oregon. 211info plays an important role by helping direct
callers throughout Oregon to the Department of Housing and Urban
Development (HUD) certified counseling services and legal
assistance.
Thanks to special funding from the Portland Housing Bureau, 2-1-1 is
the one simple number to call for foreclosure assistance. Those who
need such help in Portland will be directed to one or more of the

Central
Oregon 2-1-1
211info and Central Oregon 2-1-1 partnered in February
2009 to bring service to Deschutes, Jefferson and Crook
counties.
Central Oregon 2-1-1 offers a comprehensive Web site for a gateway to
information and the Central Oregon Directory of Community Resources.
Copies of the directory are available for purchase for $15 through
the United Way of Deschutes County office, 1130 NW Harriman St.,
Bend, OR 97701-1977, phone: 541-389-6507.

Severe Winter Shelters
Anyone seeking
shelter should contact the 211info Winter Shelter Line (503)
721-1500. 211info will be available to identify available shelter and
warming center resources between 8:00 AM and 10:00 PM, Monday through
Friday, and 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM Saturdays and Sundays.

Red Cross Severe Weather Emergency Warming Center

1302 Ankeny Street, (near 13th Avenue in Inner SE), Portland
Hours: 9:00 PM - 7:00 AM, check-in on site
Serves: Families, single adults, and youths; Pets allowed; some space
for carts; accessible location (main floor)
TriMet Routes: One block south of 13th and Sandy, served by the #12,
19, and 20 bus routes
For transportation to the Severe Weather Emergency Warming Center,
individuals should go to Union Gospel Mission (UGM) on [Monday
evening, between 8:30pm - 9:30pm. - I'll check Tues. am to see if

Serves: Families with children under 18
Adult Winter Warming Center:
Check in at Transition Projects, 475 NW Glisan, between 8:30 a.m. and
7:00 p.m. to reserve a space for the night.
Dates: seven nights a week throughout winter season
Hours: 8:00 PM - 7:00 AM, check-in on site
Serves: Single men, single women, couples without children, separate
sleeping areas for men and women.

publication of Street Roots, has just been been released. The Guide
is Portland's most comprehensive list of services for people
experiencing homelessness and poverty.
